6/5H, W and Y are gaining proficiency in NXT Programming.

Dear Bloggers,

Here is the latest pictorial updates of what our wonderful stage 3 are up to in robotics.

6/5H, W and Y are using NXT robots and learning how to program them with NXT 2.1 Program.  Pupils have embarked upon a complex series of self paced building and programming activities with basic and advanced levels in all steps.  The pupils are working in teams of 2 and where possible a Year 6 student is acting as a mentor to a Year 5.  This is a very powerful learning situation.  The Year 6 students take their learning to a higher level as they have to a comprehensive understanding of their work to demonstrate and explain the activities to their partner.  The mentor role also helps develop social skills such as responsibility, kindness, understanding, helpfulness and patience.  Communication skills are practiced as the instructions must be presented in a clear and organised manner which can be understood and carried out by the Year 5 student.  If not the mentor has to explain a different way.  The Year 5 students benefit as they have their own personal tutor and a positive role model to emulate. It is very exciting watching the students rise to what is expected of them and excel.
