Robocup 2018

Dear Bloggers,

On Tuesday 21st August, three fabulous teams from Gordon East entered Robocup  ‘On Stage’ competition in the ‘Novice Division’.

Our teams were called ‘Under the Sea’, ‘Hokey Pokey’ and ‘Seaweed Dragons’ . The Dragons performed to the song,’ My Heart will Go On’ from Titanic.

Here are our great teams.   Well done to all.

(Sorry for the poor photography but my phone was lost and the lense on my normal camera was broken. My only option was an old camera and I was very unhappy with the quality of the  photos and videos)

We were all inspired by the performances from the ‘Expert Category’.  Megatron and the muppets were especially good.

Comparing two different types of cars while making a finish line

Dear Bloggers,

Years 3 and 4 made two identical cars and timed how long they took to move dowan a ramp. The reading were taken 3 times and the students calculated the average.

One car remained untouched, acting as a control, and the other was changed.  Changing one variable at a time, the stuents used a fair test to see whether the changes they made made to the car mader it go faster or not. We then discussed what made made the experimental car travel faster.

Egg Beaters

Dear Bloggers,

Year 2 skillfully made egg beaters using a picture as stimulous material. They loved using the beaters in a large crate of water.

The extension activity was to design and make improvent to this.   Some students added a gear chain and using the large gear as the driver gear and a small follower the egg beaters spun faster. Many students added extra gear chains and created a mixer with multiple blades. A few students had the different mixers rotating at different speeds.

Well  done year 2.

Robot Moving Backwards and forwards using the ultrasonic and touch sensors.

Dear Bloggers,

Years 5 and 6 added an ultrasonic sensor and touch sensor bumper onto their robot.  It was then programmed to move backwards and forwards. When the bumper hit the wall the robot moved back in  the opposite direction.
