Classes 3C and 3/2S made lions

Dear Bloggers,

Using ‘ WeDo’  the children built and programmed a lion to stand up and roar when the motion sensor detected movement.  Luckily the students put a tilt sensor into a bone so the lion would sit back down and eat his new food (not someone or something else!!!!!).  The following lesson the children applied what they had learnt and designed, made and programmed their own lion. Level 3 (advanced) really created ‘Kings of the Jungle’ with features such as  opening and closing jaws, rotating head, wheels and waving paws.  The picture below shows a very high level model where the large jaws opened and closed to ‘eat’ the prey.  Level 2 used the building instructions to rebuild the functioning part of the lion and students then made their own additions and modifications. Level 1 (basic) rebuilt the lion from the previous week trying to work faster.  Small modifications were made where possible.
